Ash Eliza Smith is an artist, filmmaker, and designer who incorporates strategies of play, speculation and humor for interactive stories, mixed reality experiences, sonic performances, public space choreographies, immersive theater, live role playing games and design fiction sculptures.

Ash explores the intersection of art, technology, design, culture, and human + non-human experience in relationship to place, the body, and the environment.

Smith grew up with fine storytellers in the Southern Appalachian Mountains and has received multiple awards for her experiments in pedagogy and course design.  She is the current Director for Art and Technology in the Culture, Art, Technology program at UCSD where she recently organized ARE WE ALONE ARE WE ALIEN? with the Center for Human Imagination in La Jolla, California. She has worked with VICE, Motherboard The Creator's Project, Creative Time, MoMA.
